He'll be introducing us to a new validation framework he's written, called simply, "OK!". He describes it as "a ColdFusion 9 ORM entity validation framework inspired by Hyrule."

Reminder: Meeting Tonight!

Just a reminder that our next meeting is tonight! If you haven't already, please take a quick look at PeepCode and/or UGTV and have at least one nominee in mind before you arrive.

Thanks again to this week's sponsor, Expo Logic, who is hiring by the way.

January Meeting: Content decided on the fly!

Happy 2012, everyone! We're going to start off our meetings for the year with something a little different. This month we'll be watching a recorded presentation. "Of what?" you ask? That will be decided at the start of the meeting with a quick vote. We're going to watch a recording either from Peepcode or UGTV. Both have a variety of recordings available on a huge swath of topics. Please have a look at them and come with at least 1 suggestion in mind. We'll spend a minute or two discussing the nominees and then vote and dive right in.

As usual, please RSVP here so that we know how much food to order. The location is still pending but I will update this post once I know exactly what room we'll be in.

November Meeting: Working with ColdFusion Event Gateways - Nathan Mische

Nathan MischeIf you'll recall, Nathan presented some cool stuff he was doing with using ColdFusion Event Gateways for HTML5 Websockets, a little more than a year ago. Now he wants to dive more specifically into Event Gateways:

ColdFusion event gateways allow developers handle or create external messages or events in an asynchronous manner. Because event gateways can work with any event a Java application can handle, the applications of event gateways are many. In this talk we will go over the basics of event gateways, look at a few of the event gateways included with ColdFusion, and finally show how to build a custom event gateway.

As always, Please RSVP so we can get an accurate head count for food!

Reminder: Meeting Thursday!

Just a reminder, we're meeting this Thursday to talk about jQuery Templates and Backbone.js. If you're coming, please RSVP here so we can get an accurate headcount for food.

And while I've got your attention, the meeting after that will be on 11/10, which is only two weeks after this week's meeting. It's kind of rapid-fire, I know, but the hope is to get us back to the regularly-scheduled meetings on the 1st/2nd Thursday of the month. I'll be waiting until after this week's meeting to post the details, but save the date!

Would publishing a google calendar you could import or an iCal feed that you can subscribe to be something you would want? If so, let me know in the comments.

October Meeting: Going from server templates to client side templates: jQuery Templates and Backbone.js

This months meeting features regular member Chad Paul, who will be presenting jQuery Templates and Backbone.js. Here's what you can expect:

With the push towards better and more functional interfaces, technologies like AJAX, Web 2.0 and HTML5 are all the rage now. Common practice now asks why do that page reload when you just need a little bit of data. With this shift, those page loads are becoming more and more endangered. To us server side programmers, this can be viewed as a threat or an opportunity. If we choose to make it an opportunity, how do we manage that interaction? Lucky for us the are a lot of client side frameworks that make the data transfer and rendering easier.

In this presentation we will look how we can use jQuery, jQuery templates and backbone.js and how they can work together to make great front end interfaces.

If you're coming, please RSVP so we can get an accurate head count for food.

September Meeting: 9/22 at Wharton

This month's meeting we will be hosting Matt Riley, a ColdFusion developer from Phoenix, AZ (via Connect). Matt is a Sr. Web Applications Engineer at Amkor Technology. Matt has been involved with technology for most of his career and has been developing Web applications for over 10 years. He has broad experience in architecting Web based e-commerce and enterprise applications which are designed to increase departmental efficiency and deliver enabling technologies to individual employees. Most recently, Matt has been heavily involved in designing and implementing enterprise mobile initiatives at Amkor and has developed multiple web based mobile applications that run on numerous mobile platforms.

Matt will be presenting some interesting stuff about jQuery Mobile, Titanium, and PhoneGap -- if you're thinking about mobile (and who isn't, these days?) then I would advise you not to miss it!

Mobile applications are everywhere. Exploding interest from consumers and corporations brings the need for developers to create applications within a diverse mobile ecosystem. Developers are faced with the choice of learning languages specific to each platform or using tools that will allow a developer to write their application once and deploy it on many mobile devices. We'll discuss what these tools are, when they should be used and also look at the final product these tools generate. This discussion will help you refine your mobile strategy and also help you decide if these tools are appropriate for your application.

August Meeting: Go To Build Guild!

In lieu of a regular meeting this month, we're encouraging you to attend another Philly group: Build Guild on Wednesday 8/17. That is not to say you shouldn't consider attending events by PANMA (bad example, they don't have a meeting this month...) or any of the many other Philly Tech Community groups (there are many of them!)... but Build Guild is where we'll be, and we hope to see you there.

What's Build Guild all about? From their website: "Build Guild is a monthly gathering of web folks that enjoy chatting over drinks." There are no presentations, and no schedule; just show up and enjoy some adult beverages and the company of other geeks from the region.

They do ask that you RSVP, if you are planning to attend.

July Meeting: HTTP 101 for CF Developers, with Nathan Mische

Nathan has a lot to say when it comes to the basics of HTTP. The things that we take for granted are more complex than we sometimes realize or understand.

Nathan MischeHTTP 101 for CF Developers: What really happens when you use cflocation, cfcookie, cfcontent and more.

In this presentation I will review the HTTP request/response protocol and show how tags such as cflocation, cfcookie, and cfcontent work within the protocol. I will also demonstrate how to debug cfhttp and web service calls using an HTTP proxy.
